JIFFY PACKAGING NV / MOBIL SHC GEAR 220
Situation
Jiffy Packaging is a leading manufacturer of durable, protective packaging materials with various applications and is part of the
Abriso-Jiffy Group. They are active in Europe and specialized in the extrusion of PE, PP and PS and the production of technical plastics
for packaging and insulation. Within the framework of the Flemish Energy Policy Agreement (EBO), they are always looking for potential
energy-saving measures.
Recommendation
Authorized Mobil distributor Ingelbeen-Soete recommended to switch the lubricant in gearboxes of extrusion lines from
Mobilgear 600 XP 220 & 320 mineral gear oil to synthetic Mobil SHC Gear 220. Due to its lower friction coefficient and stronger
lubrication film, Mobil SHC Gear 220 has the potential to reduce gearbox friction losses, allowing gearboxes to operate more efficient with
energy savings as a result. In addition, Mobil SHC Gear 220 has a much longer service life, compared to mineral oils, which helps to reduce
maintenance costs and the volume of waste oil.
Results and savings
A test was conducted on one production line where both main reduction and hose reducer were switched to Mobil SHC Gear 220.
The results showed an average energy saving of 4.6%, bringing cost savings and reduced annual emissions of 2.1 tons of CO2
on this one production line. By deploying Mobil SHC Gear oil on all production lines, Jiffy Packaging will further reduce the environmental impact
of their production process and at the same time achieve economic savings.
