Z-24 Elia chooses Mobil lubricants
Situation
In October 2022, shipowner Stéphane Vedelaar of Z.24 Elia chose to switch the 2021 Volvo Penta engine
to our premium oil Mobilgard HSD +15w40. Previously, it was using a standard 15w40 engine oil.
Mobilgard HSD +15w40 is also officially approved by Volvo.
The standard EP2 grease was also replaced with our Mobilgrease XHP 222.
Recommendations
- Mobilgard HSD + 15w40 is an extra-high performance, multigrade engine oil specially formulated for
increased drain intervals in heavily loaded marine diesel engines.
- Mobilgrease XHP 222 is an excellent lithium complex grease with superior resistance to water
washout and outstanding protection.
Results and benefits
Thanks to our Mobilgard HSD + 15w40 and Mobil Serv Lubricant Analysis follow-up, the lubrication
interval will be able to be significantly increased without risk. Previously, an oil interval of 500 hours
was maintained.
Due to its specially adapted formula, this oil keeps the engine extremely clean and additives stay at
the right level for longer. Numerous other examples showed us that oil condition remains excellent,
metal wear parts do not rise during longer intervals and there is less sludge build-up so the engine will
remain perfectly protected.
The oil interval will be increased to at least 750 hours with this Volvo engine, which will bring
significant savings.
Switching to Mobilgrease XHP 222 will double the lubrication interval. Better lubrication will also extend
the life of the lubricated components by a considerable amount.
