Especially worth doing before a long journey!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ingelbeen.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/oil-check-inline1.jpg\" alt=\"Checking engine oil with a dipstick\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step-by-step guide<\/h2>\n<p>Park on a level surface and wait ten minutes so the engine cools and the oil settles.<\/p>\n<p>Open the bonnet and secure it properly.<\/p>\n<p>Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth.<\/p>\n<p>Push the dipstick back in, pull it straight out again and read the level.<\/p>\n<p>The oil should sit close to the upper mark. Near (or below) the lower mark?
