If it comes on, never ignore it: it&#8217;s a signal that your engine or engine oil needs checking urgently.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ingelbeen.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/oil-light-inline1.jpg\" alt=\"Engine oil warning light on dashboard\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Possible causes<\/h2>\n<p>The oil light may come on because the oil level is too low, the oil pump has failed, the oil pressure sensor has an issue, or there&#8217;s a blockage somewhere in the oil system. Whatever the cause: take it seriously and investigate as soon as possible. Driving on with the oil light on can cause serious engine damage.<\/p>\n<h2>What should you do?<\/h2>\n<p>Light comes on while driving? Pull over as soon as it&#8217;s safe.<\/p>\n<p>Switch off the engine immediately and let it cool down.<\/p>\n<p>Check the oil level with the dipstick.<\/p>\n<p>Level too low?
